My critical question was “What it does mean to be social given the existence of modern technology?” I plan to study people from some restaurant, computer store, and some group work store that uses technology in their favor. The reason that I choose them because they have change through the time, restaurant and computer store they both were normal and with the advance of technology the one start to improve it and the other came to life. They will show me what this changed people and their interaction with the restaurant or the online computer costumer service. I am still thinking of how to answer my critical question. I think could how are their interaction with the people and the way that they use technology. I have a friend of friend working on a restaurant maybe I will go there for this project otherwise will be completely strangers. Go and ask when it is appropriate or see the opening hours.

-     How technology facilitated your life helping the costumers?

-     Would have more interaction with the costumers with technology or less interaction?

-     Have you see co-workers fired because of some technology?

If I will do the restaurant it might be during the lunchtime I will be seating on the table watching how the work together as a team and what are the interaction with other and costumers. I will be looking for the way that they manager the technology and their talking. I will use my camera to record the video if possible.

Part I

 The podcast about “Becoming Batman” and “Summer Camp” have similar ideas. Both are showing how people are trying to find their self in a group or how we assume that some people belong to a type of group. Therefore, some people assume that they are not good as other people. I think the main idea of this reading is to show for our next project the two type of writing that we can write, the ethnography, which describe as a group and the profile, which is a story of one person. For the “Becoming Batman” I think I heard more from the journalists. Since the podcast start by the journalist telling that a person with no vision are being their guild in the mountains, the journalist start to tell the story and sometimes it stopped to the interview to understand the real facts. On the other hand, “Summer Camp” It is more about the subject interviewed. In the “Summer Camp” I could feel the emotion of the kids being in the group and their passion of their teams. As I was listening I felt most of the describing scene in the “Summer Camp” sounds very familiar. “Now for me, for the first few weeks, what was tough about this was that I was really a nobody there. And I'd always be bringing up the rear, I'd always be kind of slow. And I wasn't showing myself to be macho, even though there were so many opportunities in a given day to prove yourself macho. I mean, we were always, for no apparent reason, running like crazy from one tree to another tree, or up some mountain. Every few minutes there was something you could be the best at. And I was never the best.” I think it is all boys in the world do when they are at some unknown place or out of the comfort zone. We try to catch attention for other people and mainly girls. It made me remember all camps that I have been. For the “ Becoming Batman” was very interesting for me because from the beginning I had no clue that what were spoken was something that I have already heard before. I have a blind friend from my high school and he told this story of the batman and how incredible he is. Therefore, I asked him if he would give a shot and learn that, but he said is too much for him. Therefore, after hearing the podcast I start to wonder if his parents gave him more expectation would he be different? The “Summer Camp” Is organized chronologically. I think is to show how times flies in the camp and every detail of the transition of hating the camp to loving the camp. For the “Becoming Batman” it is by the theme. It to show the difference between people, talk about what expectation can do to us humans, how a blind person can “see”, and etc. The idea of blind person can live as a normal person intrigued me a lot. I think the society has force to put us to think that people with deficiency has a role of someone who need help and support. Yes, they need that, but until what point? We have an amazing skills we are humans. I think the idea to take risk is very interesting and I hope I can gain the courage to do things that other people are afraid of.

Part ll

I would like to find a group of people who practice teamwork. I am a person who loves the feeling to fight together. Having people for my back and accomplishing tasks. Feel the glory and the joy together. However, if I find someone with an incredible background I may change my project to profile, instead of ethnography.

Mine main target might be one of mine classmate who is in a sport team, restaurant workers, people from the health center, cellphone store at union, and new student welcome team. I might want to know how is organized the team. Each person must have some sort of task and I want to know what this task it is and what he or she contributed to the team as a whole with his or her work. I think I have to pay a lot attention in how they interact to each other and mainly talk with the “boss” or leader to understand what everyone means to the company. In relation to my critical question I think that they could show me how the technology might have eliminated some of their co-workers or have made their work time much easier. In addition, what do they think about these changes?

Part I

After the class today I made some small changes in my critical question and it become to “how the progression of technology has changed the society and you’’. The first criteria which is be personally meaningful to you it fix perfectly because I think I have been the generation how saw the greatness of the progression of the technology. I lived in the years of simple black and white cellphone to the nowadays smartphones, so It is meaningful to me. With this fast development people around the world are concerned whether is a good or a bad thing. It is also very easy to generate sub-questions like “ how has it affected our social life’’, “how has it affected our patience and intimacy”. It is not too broad because it is narrow down to you and society and also not to specific about what kind of technology. In addition, I did put my judgments in the question whether what I think it is good or not. I think this question would help me to think more things around me. By making questions and thinking I will have more ideas to came out for the second and third project.

My Artifact is my car. Since a boy I was waiting for this moment, a car in my name that was chosen by me. I got this year in March 27^th. This car is my first one. I have had drive experiences before, but none of the cars were mine. Therefore, I really love and take care of it. It is a white Honda civic. It has black and silver wheels, audio Bluetooth connection, parking assistance, sunroof, and a futuristic panel. It is almost everything that I wanted in a car. I just wished it could be manual car instead of automatic. With my car my life in Lincoln start to have more quality. My car is constant helping me get to places. Restaurant, grocery store, parks and friends house are places that I had difficulties in access. I was limited in just places nearby me. Thanks to my car I had the opportunity to go to Omaha, Kansas City, and many places that I did not know that existed in Lincoln. I love the feeling of driving it. I can control everything on it. It is like spending time with best friends I love it. I think nowadays everyone across the world would like to have one because the car has several benefices and it is also icon of richness in some country. As a mentioned before my car helps me to get in places, so cars are very needed by people. They can vary sizes, luxury, and brand. There are many type of car invented by us that has a specific function. They play an important role in our society. The cars have been improving a lot with the development of the technology. They used to consume a lot of gas, used to be slower, without air-condition, no audio, parking assistance, air bags and etc. Therefore, I think my reformed critical question which is “ how the progression of technology has changed the society and you’’ I can use car as example to demonstrated how big is the influence of car in our nowadays life, how the have been improving and what we think about this improvement.

Free Writing

1) By looking around my room the thing that catches my eyes is my king size bed. It occupies almost one third of this room. It is big and blue. It is tall enough to put many boxes in under it. I love this bed for it size, so I can roll to the right and left.

2) In my last shower I was thinking about today’s plan. I checked in my mind if I have finished all homework that was assigned and where I was going to watch NBA finals.

3) Last night I did not think much. I was just terrified by the idea of writing a 25 pages paper for the class. In addition, I was thinking that almost all my male classmates are athletics and they are huge comparing to me.

4) My favorite class in college I think it was Introduction to Theater and EDPS classes. In the theater class I have the opportunity to learn a lot of art culture here in Lincoln. I watched three different plays and many slides or video that professor gave to us in class. The EDPS class is an international education curse for international students. It is a type of introduction of American college life and getting to know what sources you have on campus curse. I basically know every place on campus because of this class. It is really helpful in the first year of adaptation here in America. In addition, I met many good friends there and we had a great time together. In high school my favorite classes were the history and geography. I am easy learner in history because I like to explore the past and know more about our past generations. The geography classes were great because I can understand more about why and how all these natural disaster are formed and my current location.

5) I am very friendly person, so rarely I argue with somebody. However, the last time I think it was in March when I decided to buy a car. I want to buy a brand new car or a car with less than 20,000 miles on it, but my parent think that it is unnecessary they wanted me to buy an old car that cost around 5,000 to 8,000 dollars. Therefore, It was a crazy month of me trying to convince them that a new car would be better for me because I was going to use it for a long period of time. Thankfully they accepted my idea.

6) My feelings right now are a mix of angry and sadness. I just watched the second game of NBA finals and the team that I am rooting for and they lose it. It has been more than three years that I did not watch an NBA finals game. I used to love watch basketball, but my team start to loose and I stopped to follow the games. However, these last couple games made me want to watch basketball again. It is a great way of entertainment and a time to socialize by watching the game with friends instead of using computer or using the cellphone all the time. My thinking is all about the homework right now. I have to finish it. I should probably start doing the homework earlier that I am doing now by tomorrow.

7) My home community is in Sao Paulo. It is the biggest city in the South American. Therefore, the city is a huge concentration of skyscrapers, cars, and people. My parents and my sister are there. It is totally different from Lincoln-NE although it has some points in common with the downtown Omaha-NE. The places I see are my house, the biggest avenue called “ Avenida Paulista”, Korean or Japanese town, many places that I used to play soccer, and the church that I used to go. I love my home community. However, Sao Paulo is still a development city. Therefore, the poverty lives with the richness causing instability. I have been assaulted in the streets. My home has been robbed. It is dangerous to walk or drive in the streets after 11.pm. All these problems helped me decided to leave the city that I love and hate at the same time.

8) I am very scared about this class. It seen that I will have to work hard a lot, but I like challenges. In addition, I hope I can make new friends and improve my English writing, speaking, and listening.

Critical Question

 My critical question is How has the progression of technology affected the social skills of society?  I choose it because this question can bring many sub-topics to discuss about it and it is also one of the most discussed questions in the world nowadays. I think my generation of 90’s experienced the transition of the no-tech world to the tech world. I remember very cleanly of playing with neighbor kids without even knowing them. Going to the streets and parks to have fun. However, nowadays I see many children that are always with the head down looking on their smartphone or tablets. It makes me think a lot if it is good and right to give to five years old kid a tablet or smartphone as present. I was a victim of the abuse of technology and the result is the eyeglasses in my head. I start to use computer at nine or eight. I was fascinated by the games, so I became addicted. However, my parents were able to take my game out of me when I start to play more than the normal. Most of the time computer of video game parents could hide or just turn it off, but now the cellphone or small videogame device are small and so hard to take out because sometimes you need to have the phone with you for cases of emergence. I think this question is asked all around the world because the famous scene is when a group of friend goes out to dinner and everybody is checking their phones. It is ridiculous because they were there to socialize with each other, instead of that they were just looking at their phone at looking about other’s people life. This question is perfect for the projects because it can be divided in three main topics. Therefore, I do not have to worry about on what to write about. In addition, it is a problem that is currently be discuss everywhere in the world and I am one of the victim and witness of how this technology are changing people’s life.
