Writing is a very important part of
our lives. Writing is constant in my
daily life. I write text messages, emails, and small paragraphs. I have
received education in three different countries. I was born in Brazil, but I
studied in China until the third grade and now I am currently seeking for my
bachelor degree in U.S. In China is where I had my first experience in writing.
Chinese use different characters for each word. It was extremely hard to memorize
it and to write it. I used to write basic essays about an animal, holiday or
parents. In the forth grade I moved back to Brazil and start to write in the English
ABC letters. It was a totally different experience. I adapted very quickly
though because I did not need to memorize millions of characters. During the
time in Brazil, which was until high school I wrote several essay topics and
even a small novel. In U.S. the writing follows a pattern. Not really a
pattern, but professors teach you what do you need to make a good essay. It is very
easy and very hard at same time. Since I got here I took several English
classes, I wrote many types of essay, such as comparison and contrast or research
essay.
The writing for me is very important to communicate, record, and express
myself. First of all, the communication throughout writing is the second used
in the world. People use writing to communicate for several reasons, such as
distance or shyness. Words written can be more profound and more impact.
Second, write to record is my favorite. Human’s brain cannot memorize
everything. However, if you write all events down and read it after a long time
you will remember it. Human’s history is recorded by writing. Third, to express
my ideas I use the writing. I take a piece of paper and start to write my ideas
about some subject. Therefore, after writing all ideas I start to connect them.
This helps me to see better about some subject and express better my ideas to
others. These three purposes for writing help others to understand you. Writing
can introduce some people’s personality to you. It is where you can know deeper
a person from the inside. Many people are shy or do not want to express their
selves by talking, so writing it is the best option for those people.
My currently writing is very
instable in my opinion. Most of the time I can write a lot about a topic, but sometimes
it is too much. I came up with idea very quickly. However, I think it is not
good because I cannot think out of the box. Most of my ideas are common sense. My
writing has been improving a lot since I got in U.S., but recently I just feel
I am stack in a level and I cannot find a way to go up. I prefer writing a topic
that it is given and topics that do not need researches. The researches papers
are my nightmare. I can write them easily, but the citation and finding a trustful
resource it is hard. In sum, I am seeking forward to this class to become a
better writer and achieve the college level of writing.
You have a fascinating literacy history! I'm sorry your experience in English writing has been so narrow and formulaic. I don't think, though, as you go on in your college career, you'll find that not all English writing is so formulaic. In this class, I hope you'll find a chance to use some of your creative writing skills you developed in Brazil.
